The Missouri Strawbale Construction Initiative
was a program offered in Douglas, Ozark, Shannon, Howell, Texas
and Wright Counties in the State of Missouri, USA during
2006-2010.

The intention of the program was to assist
qualified residents of these counties in arranging for
construction of a straw bale home for themselves using STRAW
BALES as a primary construction resource.

A goal of the project was to increase the
availability of affordable housing in Douglas, Ozark, Shannon,
Howell, Texas, and Wright Counties
-
A goal of the project was to stimulate the local
agricultural economy by developing a market for a previously
unused resource.

The program was offered through the Top of the
Ozarks Resource Conservation & Development Council in
partnership with HUD and the University of Missouri Extension
Service in Douglas County, Missouri.
